Stewardship Agreements

Interested in improving your defensible space on Conservancy land?

The California Tahoe Conservancy manages thousands of small properties for open space throughout neighborhoods on the California side of the Lake Tahoe Basin. The Conservancy manages these properties to reduce wildfire risk, protect public safety, and to maintain and protect wildlife habitat and water quality.

In response to requests from neighbors, the Conservancy is offering voluntary neighbor Stewardship Agreements within four neighborhoods through October 31, 2025. Neighbors may receive a permit to improve defensible space on Conservancy land within 100 feet of the structures on your property. These activities are designed to supplement the Conservancy’s ongoing forest management.
