Neighbor Stewardship Agreements
Debris Disposal
Neighbor Stewardship Agreement Pilot
In 2026, the California Tahoe Conservancy (Conservancy) is continuing to test our Stewardship Agreement Pilot. If you own a property adjacent to Conservancy land within any of the eight test neighborhoods (see here for list), you are eligible to participate in the pilot. A signed Stewardship Agreement will allow you to conduct limited activities on Conservancy property to complement defensible space activities performed on your private property.
Disposing debris generated by your defensible space activities on Conservancy land is your responsibility. This is because this is a voluntary program that allows you to perform activities on Conservancy land for the benefit, and are not related to any Conservancy project. Debris disposal may require you to incur costs, including dump fees or transportation costs, or both. See below for more information about debris disposal for your location.
West and North Shore Areas Served by Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal (TTSD)
You will need to take all the material you generate to the Eastern Regional Landfill Material Recovery Facility and Transfer Station (MRF). Visit the TTSD website for details on the MRF location and operating hours.
Permittees in Placer County can use your TTSD green waste punch card to dispose up to six cubic yards of green waste. Beyond that, TTSD charges additional fees of $16.90 per cubic yard of green waste. TTSD requires proof of residency to get a punch card. Material delivered to the MRF should be loose in a truck bed or trailer. TTSD requires you to remove debris from any bags before dumping.
Permittees in El Dorado County can deliver three cubic yards of green waste material to TTSD if you have had trash service for one year prior. You will need to pay $16.90 for each additional cubic yard.
Dumpster rentals for mixed waste are also available for a fee through TTSD.
If you generate large amounts of woody debris (branches, brush, small trees, etc.), you can request chipping services from North Tahoe Fire Protection District (NTFPD). You will need to stack woody material neatly, with the cut/large end out at the edge of the road in front of the Conservancy property. When you make the request for chipping service, use your private property address. The NTFPD chipping program will not take pine needles and pinecones. Take all your needles and cones to the TTSD MRF/Transfer Station.

South Shore Area Served by South Tahoe Refuse (STR)
Take all the green waste material that you generate to the STR Resource Recovery Facility in South Lake Tahoe. Visit the STR website for location and operating hours. STR will not pick up your material generated from stewardship agreement activities as part of its curbside residential green waste collection. For 2026, green waste disposal at the STR’s Resource Recovery Facility, in accordance with the guidelines below, is free for Conservancy Stewardship Agreement permittees. Tell the attendant your green waste is from Conservancy Stewardship Agreement activities. All the material you deliver to STR must be loose or in paper bags. You must not include any trash. STR will not accept material in plastic bags. STR will accept material smaller than three feet long and ten inches in diameter.
If you generate large amounts of woody debris (branches, brush, small trees, etc.), you can request chipping services from Lake Valley Fire Protection District. You will need to stack woody material neatly, with the cut/large end out at the edge of the road in front of the Conservancy property. When you make the request for chipping service, use your private property address. The Lake Valley Fire chipping program will not take pine needles and pinecones. Take all needles and cones to the STR Resource Recovery Facility.
