Tahoe Conservancy Releases Draft Environmental Document for Access Improvements at Van Sickle Bi-State Park
South Lake Tahoe, Calif.—The California Tahoe Conservancy (Conservancy) has released for public review the draft environmental document for the Van Sickle Bi-State Park Safety and Equitable Access Improvements Project (Project). The Project includes:
- 0.4 miles of paved shared-use trail connecting the park entrance to the California day-use area and the state boundary line,
- a new park entrance plaza,
- a new state boundary line monument,
- two new picnic areas,
- accessibility improvements to existing restrooms, and
- improvements to the existing parking lot to improve storm water management and snow removal and storage.
The Conservancy invites all interested parties to comment on the Draft Supplemental Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration/Initial Environmental Checklist for the Project, pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Code of Ordinances and Rules of Procedure.
The draft environmental document is available for a 30-day public review period from March 26 to April 27, 2026. The Conservancy and Nevada Division of State Parks co-manage the 727-acre Van Sickle Bi-State Park, which offers hiking trails, picnic areas, and the historic Van Sickle ranch barn and cabins.
