South Lake Tahoe, Calif. – July 27, 2016 – The California Tahoe Conservancy (Conservancy) has announced the end of its annual seasonal dog closure at the Upper Truckee Marsh. The closure lasts annually from May 1 through July 31. The purpose of the closure is to keep dogs out of critical breeding habitat for special, threatened, and endangered species.

Beginning August 1, dogs will again be permitted access to the Upper Truckee Marsh, provided they are on leash. The Conservancy-owned Cove East property, at the end of Venice Drive and near the entrance to Tahoe Keys Marina, remains open year-round to leashed dogs. The El Dorado County Sheriff enforces county and city ordinances and Conservancy staff monitors for compliance.

The Conservancy owns and manages the approximately 550 acre marsh, one of the largest remaining in the Sierra Nevada, for the protection and enhancement of wildlife habitat and water quality.

Established in 1984, the mission of the Conservancy is to lead California’s efforts to restore and enhance the extraordinary natural and recreational resources of the Lake Tahoe Basin.
